With 333 works listed in the building register, the architect Walter Flueler has significantly shaped the present-day cityscape of Zug. His broad spectrum of work includes buildings such as Zug's first high-rise, entire rows of commercial buildings, special structures such as an equestrian center, as well as numerous residential neighborhoods and single-family homes. A selection of selected works is presented in this volume.
Walter Flueler was a fervent advocate of modernism, but also had to come to terms with more conservative architectural approaches. The development of Walter Flueler's architecture reveals how the design of buildings and spaces is subject to the mindset of a given era and influenced by the economic environment. Yet, Flueler's signature can be found time and again in the consistent quality that characterizes all his buildings: meticulous design down to the last detail, with a keen sense of proportion and the consistently well-conceived connection between exterior and interior spaces.
