The General Design Institute with Trix and Robert Haussmann

From 1979 onwards, the collaboration between Trix and Robert Haussmann and the Röthlisberger cabinetmaking workshop resulted in numerous experiments in artistically and handcrafted furniture. These exclusive designs cannot be compared to standard furniture from specialist shops; they were therefore sold under the name /objekte/ – initially in Haussmann's critical manner – and in limited editions of 15 pieces each: a column stump, a column cabinet, a wall chest of drawers, and a bridge desk. All objects were made in olive ash grain and painted. These objects were extremely demanding in their detail development and production, demanding a high degree of innovation, new techniques, and exceptional craftsmanship. The close collaboration and relationship between manufacturer and designer always defined the uniqueness of the finished product. This publication presents the furniture from the Röthlisberger collection, developed by Trix and Robert Haussmann at the Allgemeine Entwurfsanstalt.
