Between 1949 and 1989, remarkable late modernist buildings were created in the coastal city of Kuwait. During these four decades, the city-state on the Persian Gulf was fundamentally redesigned and virtually reimagined. While the first volume selected and presented 150 exemplary buildings, this second volume brings together interviews, essays, academic position papers, and transcripts of contemporary publications from these years.

The texts by authors from Germany and abroad address questions about the meaning, function, and influence of individual and corporate protagonists who influenced, defined, and shaped this extraordinarily dynamic transformation process. These texts are also embedded in a broader regional and international context. The contributions are supplemented by a wide range of photographs, maps, and archival material.
