How does a drawing come into being? Where does what manifests on paper come from? From the pen, the hand, the mind, or are influences from the immediate environment the only decisive factors?
Based on these questions, Meike Eckstein investigates the impulses of direct drawing that give rise to the depicted. In self-experiments and experiments with others, she confronts herself and her subjects in specific locations with written and visual input in order to transform this into pictorial output. Can drawing ever be made comprehensible, or is the attempt inevitably doomed to failure?
The result is a highly sophisticated work that combines scientific-experimental research with philosophical considerations, thus connecting the tangible environment with the intangible of the unconscious.
