Fab Lab
_Access to high-tech production opportunities for everyone, everywhere
_Background knowledge on all important aspects of the movement
_Technologies and work processes
_Comprehensive presentation of products from Fab Labs
In the wake of the digital revolution, Fab Labs (short for Fabrication Laboratory) are making high-tech production technologies available to small workgroups or private individuals, who can make "almost anything" themselves. Fab Labs are both workshops and laboratories, equipped with digital production machines such as laser cutters, CNC milling machines, and 3D printers. Following desktop publishing and digital video editing, the production of physical products is now also possible for everyone, anywhere.
In the first half of the publication, various authors explore topics such as the history of the company, the philosophy behind it, the business aspects, as well as the techniques, methods, and work processes. This is followed by an exemplary presentation of the design and production process in a Dutch Fab Lab. The extensive Fab Gallery at the end of the book showcases around 30 remarkable products, each spread over several pages, thus illustrating the full range of possibilities offered by Fab Labs.
