Wood is one of the oldest building materials and, at the same time, a highly modern material. Through technical decomposition and reorganization, it can now be used in a more precise and formally versatile way in construction. It is available as a material for abstract geometries with virtually no natural dimensional limits.
Wood moves between its origins as a natural material and its role as a carrier of material-independent design concepts. This anthology examines this tension between material and form, as well as between nature and culture. Contributions from various disciplines shed light on wood as a hybrid material with diverse identities and possibilities.
