Excursions through urbanization
_ Biographical reflections of an architect
_ Independent stories that are connected by various threads
_ From local to regional to global
_ Topic of the densification of the world and what this means for Switzerland
A pad of paper and pencil, a small laptop, a shaded loggia – possibly with a sea view: For over a decade and a half, mostly during summer holidays, architect Markus Lüscher has reflected on his forays into life to explore how they have influenced him and broadened his horizons, particularly shaping his Swiss identity. This reader is compiled from his biographically interspersed notes, which describe many everyday, human, and personal aspects, as well as the fantastical and the grotesque.
In addition to observations and stories from the author's home in Seetal (Canton Aargau) and Switzerland, the book also focuses on his experiences while traveling to other countries and during an extended professional stay in Hong Kong. What Markus Lüscher describes is exemplary of the current densification of the globalized world, the growth of metropolises and agglomerations. He makes it clear that these developments are also relevant for Switzerland, located in the heart of Europe, and that they significantly influence the future of the Confederation.
