Typography: Macro and Micro Aesthetics
This book demonstrates the application of theory in practice and serves as a teaching tool for anyone working in the field of visual communication. By analytically examining the role of typographic design in today's media-dominated environment, it provides a critical assessment not only of the superficial aspects of the design but also of the underlying thinking.
The first part of the book deals with the microaesthetic qualities of letters, numbers, and punctuation marks, as well as lines and geometric elements, and their diverse applications. The second part analyzes the design aspects of surface, structure, sequence, contrast, form, and counterform, illustrating their function in typographic design with examples from teaching and practice. The third part uses practical examples to demonstrate how typographic elements contribute to design at the microaesthetic level. Finally, the fourth part analyzes the connection between concept, macrostructure, and microaesthetics in a series of architectural posters.
