Future single-family home?
Single-family homes are considered the primary cause of urban sprawl and land consumption – yet at the same time, they represent the ideal housing for broad sections of the population. This contradiction motivated the ZHAW Institute of Urban Landscape to take a closer look at the single-family home.
Single-family housing developments were examined from the diverse perspectives of architects, social scientists, and a renowned architectural photographer. Instead of the often-lamented, featureless smorgasbord of single-family homes, a surprisingly multifaceted housing reality with a high potential for identification emerges. This publication sharpens the eye for the specific qualities and untapped potential of this phenomenon and opens up new perspectives and insights into the current discussion on the sustainable development of urban landscapes in architecture and urban planning.
